Are you letting self-doubt take you out? Here’s what I mean – Have you ever been stopped what you’re doing to move your business forward because you’re worried about what others are thinking of you. I truly believe that no one should be held back by self-doubt, worried about how they are perceived or even frozen by fear.  

When you’re feeling worried, concerned or afraid in a business development setting, ask yourself this question. Where is your focus, on you or on the other person? It’s on you, right? What if you shifted the focus to them? When you do that, you’ll find that your anxiety dissipates.

The next time you’re in a business development setting – like a business luncheon, a conference or a networking event – give this a try. Come armed with a list of questions that you can ask your new acquaintances. Here are a few examples:

• What do you do at your company?
• What problem does your company solve?
• What’s it like in your industry?

By focusing your attention on the other person in the conversation, you’ll notice your anxiety dissipates. You get to be the listener. Plus – BONUS! – people LOVE to talk about themselves. They’ll remember you fondly for focusing on them, rather than looking over their shoulder for the next hot prospect.

When you’re able to eliminate naturally occurring self-doubt, you will quickly find that you can be who you are meant to be. Both you and your business will begin growing and expanding, instead of contracting and withdrawing.
